Car Insurance Excess Advice
When you have Third Party Fire and Theft or Fully Comprehensive car insurance, there is always an excess to pay if you have a claim.
This page explains how an excess works, when you need to pay the policy excess and how it makes a difference on your insurance quote and claim. Please read on.....
Firstly when you're get quotes online, most online quote systems will ask you whether you would like to add some voluntary excess.
What does this mean? Every policy has a compulsory excess which is set by the insurance company. Everyone is entitled to add a voluntary excess if they wish. By adding voluntary excess, you will save money on your motor insurance quote but this will affect the payout if you have a claim.
If you decide to go for a high excess, judging the risk from the insurers point of view, you're effectively saying that you're a safe driver and not planning to have a claim. If you do have a claim then you will get paid out less money. Therefore the insurer will discount your policy.
